Does my child need teeth straightening?

I am happy to see my child smiling but at times worried about his teeth, which are not straight. My mother in law says that my son has got good luck and charm with the crooked teeth, I am clueless.  

I wonder does my child needs teeth straightening. If so, what might be the right age to seek dentist advice for his irregularly placed teeth?
