The use of one-piece and two-piece implants is common in dental implantology, but they differ in terms of their installation process.
As their name suggests, one-piece implants consist of a single unit that contains both the implant body and support. They are usually made of materials such as titanium.
Conversely, a dual implant system comprises the implant body and its corresponding attachment point. The first part is detached from the other component after osseointegration (when the implant fuses with the jaw) is complete.
Advantages provided by two-piece implants include:
- Flexibility of abutments: Two-piece implants allow the prosthesis to adapt to different clinical situations, including angulation and height adjustment.
- Easier prosthetic procedures: The abutment can be repaired after osseointegration, making it easier to take impressions and place crowns for better aesthetics and function.
- Reduced fracture risk: Separating the implant body from the fulcrum minimizes stress, lowering the chance of implant fracture.
